I have worked as a Communications Officer for Great Lakes United since 2009. The work I do and have done is varied, and includes print and online publishing, grant writing, membership management, brand management, social media outreach, website administration, event management (online webinars), and mass email communications.
As a part-time employee of this small environmental organziation, I have learned a great deal about working with limited resources to produce professional content. As the only communications advisor to the organization I champion commitment to a strong branded identity that resonates with the members of the Great Lakes community.
With an undergraduate degree in Communication and Culture, and a masters degree in Mass Communication, I have studied communication extensively. Project work and the two theses I have completed in this field includes extensive study of persuasion, rhetoric, dramatism, writing, mass communication, technological determinism, semiotics, and advertising.
University of Calgary Honours Thesis – Determining the Forces of Influence: Burke’s Dramatism and the Popularity of Freud
Carleton University MA Thesis – Technological Transitions: A Semiotic Analysis of the Newspaper Advertisements for the Television Remote Control (1975-1985)
